MATERIALS
Septal cartilage used in rhinoplasty provides strong support for the nose, and harvesting too much can collapse the support structure.
For this reason, only a minimal amount is harvested in an L shape and used to lengthen the tip or build up the columella.
The most commonly used autologous tissue.
If there is not enough ear cartilage, rib cartilage may be used. At our clinic, even in revision surgery, we can adjust the tip to the desired height by reusing existing ear cartilage or using only a small amount of ear cartilage.
Rib cartilage is used when septal and ear cartilage are insufficient. It is a good material, but it tends to bend, so it must be used with care.
Harvesting it is also more involved, and the scar places a considerable burden on the patient. For this reason, rib cartilage is used only in limited cases when truly necessary.
SEHYUN SPECIAL POINTS
01
We plan to create a soft, flexible tip using ear cartilage, dermis, septal cartilage, autologous fat, fascia and other tissues.
02
When the tip is raised 3 mm or more, it tends to droop again over time unless strong support is used.
To raise the tip to the desired height, orient it in the desired direction and keep it flexible, we use Sehyun's tip support technique with ear cartilage and septal cartilage.
SEHYUN SPECIAL POINTS
Cartilage Repositioning + Tip Support Technique
Bringing together 20 years of Dr. Yoo Hyun-seok's expertise, the cartilage repositioning + tip support technique
uses minimal cartilage and minimal surgical intervention to create a tip that stays
flexible and natural over time.
DR.YOO TECHNIC 01
Cartilage repositioning is Dr. Yoo Hyun-seok's distinctive nasal tip surgery technique at Sehyun. The implant is positioned along the bridge up to the point where the firm septum ends,
and the alar cartilage at the tip is repositioned to the desired height and orientation
to shape the tip.
Structurally, the nose can be divided into the stable, static bridge
and the flexible, dynamic lower part, the tip.
Sehyun's cartilage repositioning treats the bridge and tip separately,
increasing nasal height in a way that follows the nose's natural structure.
This gives the nose a natural shape and allows the tip to move naturally.

DR.YOO TECHNIC 02
Dr. Yoo Hyun-seok's method divides cartilage into several pieces to firmly support the nasal tip
while preserving its flexibility.
The nasal tip is naturally a soft, freely moving area.
Dr. Yoo Hyun-seok's tip support technique keeps the tip from dropping over time
while still allowing it to rotate upward naturally.
SEHYUN AESTHETIC CLINIC
In rhinoplasty in particular, the surgeon's clinical experience and skill in understanding and handling materials greatly affect the result.
Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty, Dr. Yoo Hyun-seok
plans and performs surgery using minimal cartilage to create a natural-looking, flexible nose.
Q&A
At Sehyun Plastic Surgery, Chief Surgeon Dr. Yoo Hyun-seok, a board-certified plastic surgeon (Ph.D. in Medicine, 25 years as a physician), personally handles every step of rhinoplasty: the first consultation and diagnosis, surgical planning, the surgery itself and post-op follow-up. Because Sehyun is a single-doctor clinic run by Dr. Yoo, the doctor who consults with you is the doctor who operates.
After surgery, Dr. Yoo Hyun-seok usually checks your progress personally at 7 days, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months. When you look into other clinics, too, check whether the doctor who consults with you performs the surgery and who monitors your recovery. Dr. Yoo is a full member of the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the Korean craniofacial plastic surgery society, the Korean Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and an international plastic surgery society.
For implant-free rhinoplasty, we plan the bridge and tip using your own tissue, such as septal cartilage and ear cartilage, and harvest only a minimal amount. Cartilage repositioning, used in tip rhinoplasty, is Dr. Yoo Hyun-seok's technique for shaping the tip by repositioning the alar cartilages of the tip to the desired height and direction.
It is combined with the tip support technique, in which the cartilage is divided into several pieces to support the tip while preserving its movement. The aim is for the tip to remain flexible and settle into a natural position. How much can be corrected is decided after assessing the amount of cartilage and the thickness of the skin.
Yes. The Rhinoplasty menu at Sehyun Plastic Surgery has separate pages for Hump Nose, Crooked Nose, Bulbous Nose and Male Rhinoplasty. Chief Surgeon Dr. Yoo Hyun-seok personally assesses patients and performs the surgery in each case.
The scope and method of correction, such as whether to combine hump correction with osteotomy or tip correction, or how to plan nasal angles and contours that suit the facial bone structure in male rhinoplasty, are decided after assessing the bone and cartilage structure of the nose and the thickness of the skin.
The cost of surgery depends on the areas and extent of correction. For example, the surgical plan differs depending on whether hump correction includes osteotomy or tip correction. We let you know the cost after deciding on the necessary scope of surgery through diagnosis and consultation, and you can inquire on the Cost Consultation page of the Consultation & Booking menu.
If you have had previous surgery, the materials used and the current condition of your tissue need to be checked. In revision, the method and cost depend on whether only the implant needs replacing, or contracted or deformed tissue needs to be released and the support structure rebuilt.
You can inquire on the Cost Consultation page of the Consultation & Booking menu; we let you know the cost after deciding on the materials and surgical method through diagnosis and consultation.
We plan to shape the bridge and tip with your own tissue, such as septal cartilage and ear cartilage. The tissue selected depends on the amount and condition of the cartilage and the areas to be corrected.
The same approach cannot be applied to every nose. The range of possible correction depends on the internal structure of the nose, skin thickness, cartilage elasticity and the existing bridge height. In consultation, we check whether the height and shape you want can be achieved with your own tissue.
When tissue and tiny blood vessels are damaged during surgery, swelling and bruising can appear. Even after visible swelling goes down, residual swelling inside the tissue can make the tip or the area between the brows look fuller, and how quickly it subsides differs from person to person.
During recovery, avoid pressing directly on your nose. Keeping your head and upper body higher than usual when sleeping may help with swelling. Avoid salty food and saunas, and keep activity to light walking as your condition allows. Because swelling and recovery vary from person to person, you will receive care instructions during your clinic visit.
A return to daily life is generally expected about 2 weeks after surgery, but this depends on the surgical method and your individual recovery. Even after you resume daily activities, the tip may continue to settle and residual swelling to subside.
We advise postponing strenuous exercise and saunas for about a month after surgery. Because recovery speed varies from person to person, when you can actually resume is decided with your doctor after checking the surgical site.
Check whether the surgeon who will consult with you and perform the surgery is a board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Yoo Hyun-seok of Sehyun Plastic Surgery is a board-certified plastic surgeon who personally diagnoses you and explains the surgical plan at your first consultation.
It is a good idea to ask how much correction is possible given the condition of your cartilage and the thickness of your skin. Also ask which materials and method will be used to build the tip support, what the limits of that method are, and what changes to expect during recovery.
Check who will monitor your progress after surgery and whom you can consult about any discomfort. Sehyun Plastic Surgery is a single-doctor clinic led by Dr. Yoo Hyun-seok, who handles consultation, surgery and post-op follow-up.
